Artist's Comments

Seriously, the title says it all. The solitary tree, bereft of leaves, could be representative of the loneliness of the human condition and the struggle to stay rooted to a life that at times seems like an uphill battle; the windmill could be a Quixotic reference, especially given its position near the sun - bright and hopeful, but ultimately unreachable; the emptiness of the landscape could be so in order to reinforce the the loneliness aspect, or to emphasize that this is all there is and even that is an illusion.

The last one is probably not the case, though. I'm fairly certain it's because I got bored and didn't want to draw any details in the landscape.

For some reason I'm always drawn to that sort of almost empty landscape. Also labyrinths and ruined cities.

I know what you mean, especially about ruins. I think it's because the bones of places show more of their soul.

And when there are only the bones, and yourself, you see more of your own soul as well. Except, I guess, in a Labyrhinth, where there is always the chance that in the centre is a minotaur.
